Auf dem Bild sieht man einen einzigen Anschnitt des Nebenhodenganges. Er ist ausgekleidet von mehrreihigem, hochprismatischem Epithel mit Stereozilien. Basal liegen die Kerne der kleinen Basalzellen. Im Lumen befinden sich verklumpte Spermatozoen. Unter der Basalmembran des Epithels baut glatte Muskulatur die Wand mit auf.

Cell nuclei are stained with hemalaun or Weigerts iron-hematoxylin and then counterstained with a dye mixture of orange-phosphormolybden with aniline blue.

Bei den Stereozilien handelt es sich um fadenförmige Zytoplasmafortsätze, die wie Mikrovilli aus einem Actinfilamentgerüst bestehen. Man könnte sie auch als riesige Mikrovilli bezeichnen. Sie sind unbeweglich, aber oft durch dünne Zytoplasmabrücken miteinander verbunden, so daß sie ?verklebt? aussehen. Ihre Aufgaben gliedern sich in Resorption (Hodenflüssigkeit), Phagozytose (degenerierte Spermatozoen) sowie Sekretion (Glykoproteine, Sialinsäure).
